Of course, the 20-year mortality rate for airshow pilots and free-climbing alpinists approaches 100 percent. So there is logic, if not honor, in being a phony and a poseur.

In an objective context yes, in a subjective context no. What I mean is that in an example such as the man driving a car, confidence can either be logical or illogical. It is logical if the man has some knowledge to back it up (and can therefore reasonably expect to get where he is going), and illogical if he has no knowledge and is just relying on feeling (and thus, has no rational basis to expect a good outcome).
But in a subjective context, such as a social or sexual environment, it is irrelevant why the man has confidence when he approaches a woman. Is it because he has approached hundreds of women and acquired experience? Is he faking it like asdgamer in his youth? Is it just because he is optimistic and believes in himself? The fact is that his reasons for BEING confident are irrelevant, because confidence itself is an attractant to women. His confidence is a self-fulfilling prophecy – he broadcasts his worthiness to her, and she believes and internalizes it until/unless he proves her wrong.
